Power Clean Edition
Purpose:
This assessment is designed to estimate the one-rep maximum on total body power. This test can also be used to determine training intensities of the Olympic Lifts.
Procedure:
The athlete is positioned in the starting position for a power clean.
A light resistance that can be easily performed in 8-10 reps is used for a warm-up.
1 minute rest
Add 30-40 pounds (or 10-20% of initial load) and perform 3-5 reps.
2 minute rest
Add 30-40 pounds (or 10-20% of initial load) and attempt 1RM.
Successful attempt
The athlete is given a 2-4 minute rest
The athlete repeats Step 6
Unsuccessful attempt
The athlete is given a 2-4 minute rest
The weight is decreased by 15-20 pounds or 5-10% and a 1RM is attempted.
Steps 6 is repeated until the 1RM is determined. The assessment should be completed within 3-5 1RM attempts even if the 1RM was not determined.
